This year I started a new tradition.
My brother Jeff Shafer is an Impact Manager for City Year in Chicago and asked me to paint a mural in one of the schools that is team supports. I couldn't pass up the opportunity, so my Dad (Doug Shafer) and I braved the cold to come up to Chicago for the weekend and paint this mural. The piece is about 30ft long and about 6feet tall an is on the 3rd floor next to the music room.

I went with my "Future" theme that I have used in the past, but this time instead of "the future ain't what it used to be", the mural reads "Your Future is what you make it". Hopefully this will inspire and bring a smile to the kids who attend this school for years to come.

Big thanks to the whole City Year Chicago team especially Andrea Serrano - Civic Engagement Manager, for setting me up with all the supplies. City Year Chicago's Civic Engagement Team and Service Reserves, Lisa Morrison Butler - City Year Chicago Executive Director, Kweku Thompson
and Lauren Albani – Principal of Lafayette Elementary Jeff Shafer for a warm place to sleep and the recommendation for the mural and Dad for being a trusty assistant, PR and documentation expert of the weekend.
